Eighteen further lamp column charging points are being installed as part of a trial to promote the use of electric vehicles across the borough.
This is phase two of the trial, in partnership with Ubitricity, which will add a further eighteen lamp column charging points, bringing the total to twenty-eight. The residents who are participating already own an electric vehicle and do not have off street parking. Residents can apply via the Council’s website to have electric vehicle charging points installed on their street.
The electric vehicle is linked to the lamp column via a Smartmeter. This registers how much electricity is used and will bill the user accordingly. The Council and Ubitricity will work with residents to select lamp columns that they can park by as there is no designated bay. Three lamp columns are allocated to each resident request. This decreases as more residents in the road request electric vehicle charging points.
