Come and hear Sir David Durie, KCMG tell the story of the founding of the Hospitallers in Jerusalem as an nursing order during the first crusade. Expelled from the Holy Land they continued their work tending the sick and defending Christian interests in Rhodes until ousted by the Ottomans in 1522. the settled in Malta but were again attacked by the Ottomans and eventually expelled by Napoleon. Today the Order of St. John is based in Clerkenwell.
