Mortlake Crematorium is taking part in Open House London Weekend.
Members of the public will be able to have tours (maximum 20 people at a time) of the Crematory and be able to walk around the grounds and chapel.
On Sunday 18th at 3.00 pm in the Chapel, Dr. Brian Parsons will be giving a lecture; “The development of cremation and the story behind Mortlake Crematorium.”
Brian Parsons has worked in funeral service in London since 1982 and has written extensively about funeral directing, embalming and cremation He is the author of Committed to the Cleansing Flame: The Development of Cremation in Nineteenth Century England (2005), The Undertaker at Work: 1900-1950 (2014) and co-author (with Hugh Meller) of London Cemeteries: An Illustrated Guide and Gazetteer (2008).The Undertaker at Work 1900-1950 will be available to purchase.
Tea, coffee and cake will be available for which a donation can be made to the Macmillan Cancer Charity.
