Tanya’s certain that her grandad was a spy, but here at The National Archives she can’t find out the truth on her own. She needs your help.
Find clues, break codes and keep undercover on this top secret mission. Join Tanya on her adventure to discover the facts about her grandad’s hidden history, and find out if you have what it takes to be a spy.
When you need to find out about the past, where better to start than The National Archives?
Produced by BAFTA Award winning interactive theatre makers Coney, MY GRANDAD: THE SPY is an adventure for families (7+), made in response to The National Archives’ exhibition Protect and Survive: Britain’s Cold War Revealed.
MY GRANDAD: THE SPY is a self-led interactive experience that requires the use of an adult’s smart phone which is fully charged and is either on a data plan or with at least £1 credit. Players will be instructed to arrive at The National Archives on their selected date, and will be sent their secret starting location and instructions for how to begin 30 minutes before their scheduled playing time.
Please make sure you check your emails 30 minutes before your start time.
The game will take about 90 minutes to complete, but can vary in length due to players’ speed.
We recommend that players are 7+, but of course younger siblings and older players are always welcome at the discretion of guardians.
The game is best played as a group of 2 to 4 players, and an adult needs to be present throughout the game.
MY GRANDAD: THE SPY takes place both outside and inside The National Archives, and is therefore open to the weather – so please dress appropriately.
The event will run on several days and the end time shown is the last starting time for a group
Please speak to a member of staff if your group requires transcripts of the audio elements of the game.
