Nelson, The Nile, Naples and Lady Hamilton

A talk by Sir David Durie, KCMG, Knight of St. John Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar 2000-2003.

Come and hear how in 1798, Admiral Horatio Nelson chased Napoleon to Egypt and destroyed is fleet at the Battle of the Nile. Badly wounded, he made his way to Naples where he met and fell in love with Lady Hamilton, a renowned beauty, who was the wife of the much older British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples. After various misadventures, Nelson, now a Lord, returned to England in 1800 to resume his naval career, together with the pregnant Emma Hamilton and her husband. Life in England, Trafalgar and death.

Tickets for this event are £20, to include coffee to be served from 10.30 and a light lunch and a glass of wine served after the talk, and may be purchased online here or at the church only on  selected Sundays. All Friends are eligible for a £5 discount.
