Talk : The Swift – A Bird You Can Help

April 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

£6

We are delighted that Edward Mayer of Swift Conservation has kindly agreed to speak to the Kew Society about his work. We met Edward when he was helping install nest boxes as part of the new planting scheme at Kew Gardens Station. Edward’s love of Swifts began at the age of six, and he has been in thrall to them ever since!

Once upon a time Swifts lived in ancient forests, nesting in old woodpecker holes. As time went by we chopped down all those forests, so Swifts moved into our homes, bringing action, drama and delight to our urban skies. Now they are being forced out by new styles of building, insulation and new building materials. This talk will show you how to help them survive and thrive.

Tickets will be available at the door on the night.

Members £3; Non members £6

If you are planning to drive, The National Archives have kindly agreed to waive their parking fees for attendees of this Kew Society event. Simply drive up to the barrier and it will open automatically after 6pm. When leaving, again drive up to the barrier and it will open to let you drive away without charge.
