From Zac Goldsmith:
Following the sudden closure of Hammersmith Bridge, I am petitioning Hammersmith and Fulham Council to prioritise repairing and re-opening Bridge. Please sign your name in support.
Hammersmith Bridge is a major river crossing and primary route for thousands of residents commuting to and from work every day.
It has long been known that it faced closure for long term repairs, but despite repeated attempts to make contact with them, Hammersmith & Fulham Council have kept local residents, Councillors, local MPs and even Transport for London in the dark. They now claim lack of funds, but they have never reached out to local MPs for help, or raised the issue before, and the consequence is an emergency closure with no timetable for reopening it.
As yet, we still do not know what provisions have been made to mitigate inevitable transport problems. Along with neighbouring MPs, I have written to the Secretary of State and asked to intervene as a matter of urgency.
