SUMMARY:Kew the Transition Talk at the Tap
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to this informal\, drop-in meeting where we get to know each other\, chat about what we’ve done and what we can do next – and generally just enjoy a relaxed\, social evening. \nKew The Transition is a grassroots community group that is working to bring beautiful resilience to Kew and the Borough of Richmond\, based on Transition principles. \nIn a nutshell\, Transition is a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world. There are now groups in nearly 50 countries\, in thousands of communities. With the aim of creating a low-carbon\, socially just future we are crowdsourcing local solutions to big global problems\, such as climate change\, food insecurity\, and the need to end our use of fossil fuels. \nTransition groups do things like: \n\ncreate community gardens and markets to re-localise the food chain\nestablish shared libraries of things so that people can share seldom-used or expensive tools or equipment\noffer opportunities to learn how to repair and reuse our things so that we reduce waste\, and consumption\npromote planting that supports biodiversity\, and build vibrant community spaces for sharing our ideas\nbring their communities together to form a shared vision of what a greener\, greater\, more planet-friendly world could look like.

SUMMARY:Kew Sinfonia 40th Anniversary Summer Concert
DESCRIPTION:Kew Sinfonia will be celebrating our 40th anniversary in style at our Shakespeare-themed midsummer concert. Showcasing a variety of interpretations of Shakespeare’s works by different composers\, our summer concert programme offers a thematic journey inspired by his comedies and tragedies. Light-hearted romance\, comedy and fairy-tale imagery contrast with intense emotional drama\, all brought together with performative readings by actors Mark Burghagen and Emma Longthorne. Our concert opens with Berlioz’s charming and witty overture Béatrice et Bénédict. Taken from his opera based on Much Ado About Nothing\, the overture highlights the playful sparring of the main characters. Nikolai’s overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor is a vibrantly sparkling comedic work\, its jovial\, melodic midsummer tone perfectly capturing the humour of Falstaff’s antics. The programme transitions to romance and tragedy in Norwegian composer Johan Svendsen’s 1876 Romeo and Juliet Fantasy tone poem – a passionate orchestral retelling of the star-crossed lovers’ story. Next comes Mendelssohn’s popular magical Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture\, which hardly needs any introduction! Transporting the audience into an enchanted\, airy forest full of mischief\, the overture is a masterpiece of early Romanticism that provides a direct musical interpretation of the play’s ethereal and comedic elements. But the drama doesn’t end there – the concert will finish with a celebratory bang as we perform possibly the most iconic classical composition of all time\, Beethoven’s powerful and exciting Symphony No 5. We look forward to welcoming you to join us for what promises to be a truly joyous occasion\, celebrating Kew Sinfonia’s achievements over 40 years of wonderful music making. \nProgramme \nBerlioz  Beatrice et Benedict Overture Nicolai  The Merry Wives of Windsor Overture Svendsen  Romeo and Juliet Mendelssohn  A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture Beethoven  Symphony No 5 \nDaniel Hogan Conductor Catherine Schofield Leader Mark Burghagen and Emma Longthorne Actors

SUMMARY:Making Good – The Hackney Mosaic Project
DESCRIPTION:Tessa Hunkin trained and worked as an architect before joining Emma Biggs at Mosaic Workshop in 1989. Together they built up a thriving mosaic studio\, undertaking public and private commissions for a wide range of clients including the Sultan of Oman\, Westminster Cathedral and Aston Villa Football Club. She has collaborated on a number of books about mosaic and exhibited at both solo and mixed shows. She is interested in figurative and representational work\, and was long fascinated by the history and tradition of mosaic\, drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of the Late Classical and Early Christian era. In 2011 she set up the Hackney Mosaic Project to make large scale public mosaics with vulnerable adults\, including people in recovery from mental health and addiction problems. Together they have worked on commissions for many different clients including Hackney Council\, London Zoo and Sainsbury’s. Their work was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2024 and a new book\, published in 2025 by Spitalfields Life\, celebrates their work over the past 14 years\, Tessa Hunkin’s Hackney Mosaic Project. \nBuy tickets here:   \nA talk by Tessa Hunkin\non Saturday 27th June 2026 at 11am\nCoffee served from 10:30am\nat St Anne’s Parish Hall\, Kew Green TW9 3AA

SUMMARY:The Zoffany Ensemble's Festival at Kew
DESCRIPTION:Marmalade and Masquerades – Storytelling through chamber music\, a family concert inspired by the work of Michael Bond (Paddington) and Edgar Allan Poe (Masque of the Red Death). \nSt Anne’s Church Saturday June 6th 11.00am \nTickets £16.00 adults\, £12.50 child\, £49 family (2+2) \nA magical journey from Paddington Station with London’s favourite bear\, to the dark and haunting shadows of Prince Prospero’s abbey and the spectral figure in a blood-red mask.  \nThis musical programme brings two very different worlds together. Placed side by side\, these pieces show children how music tells stories. Some stories feel cosy and bright; others feel strange and a little spooky. Both spark imagination. \nOn one side\, we meet Paddington Bear. His music is warm\, playful and full of curiosity. It celebrates kindness\, humour and small adventures. On the other\, we step into the darker world of André Caplet’s Conte Fantastique\, after Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. This music feels mysterious and dramatic. It explores shadows\, power and big emotions. \nTogether\, they remind us that light and dark belong in storytelling and that music helps us explore both\, safely and creatively. \nRepertoire: \nAndré Caplet – Conte Fantastique after Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death for harp and string quartet (1922). Story adapted by Erin Muldoon \nHerbert Chappell – Paddington Bear’s First Concert (1984) arr. Roger Montgomery  \nNarration by Helena Korner \nThe Players: \nManon Derome\, Violin \nMichael Trainor\, Violin \nSarah-Jane Bradley\, Viola \nAnthony Pleeth\, Cello \nHugh Webb\, Harp \nThe Zoffany Ensemble is led by Manon Derome who\, along with harp player Hugh Webb\, recorded the original score for three films in the Paddington franchise.

SUMMARY:The Zoffany Ensemble's Festival at Kew
DESCRIPTION:Tales of Joy and Passion. A world where exuberance meets deep lyricism.  The Zoffany Ensemble presents  an evening of radiant melodies\, rich emotion\, and chamber music at its most alive. \nSt Anne’s Church\, Friday 5th June\, 7.00pm\, with complimentary drinks from 6.30pm. \nTickets £35 adult\, £22 students \nFranz Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Piano Quintet and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Piano Quintet\, both written for the unusual combination of instruments\, share the grounding presence of the double bass — an instrument that adds depth\, warmth\, and a gentle sense of gravity. In Schubert\, it supports music of ease and radiant charm; in Vaughan Williams\, it anchors broad melodies and impassioned\, almost cinematic.  \nTogether\, these works make a perfect pairing: Schubert welcoming you with charm and intimacy\, Vaughan Williams carrying you away on waves of emotion. One smiles\, the other burns\, and both stay with you long after the final note fades. \nThe programme: \nVaughan Williams – Piano Quintet in C minor \nSchubert – Piano Quntet in A major\, D.667 “The Trout” \nThe players: \nManon Derome\, Violin \nSarah-Jane Bradley\, Viola \nAnthony Pleeth\, Cello \nLynda Houghton\, Double Bass \nSimon Callaghan\, Piano
