SUMMARY:Q2 Players - "Persuasion"
DESCRIPTION:Persuasion by Sarah Rose Kearns\nQ2 Players and Barnes Community Players have come together in a joint production of Jane Austen’s last completed novel by American author Sarah Rose Kearns\, performed at the National Archives in Kew.  In the 250th year since Jane was born in the small Hampshire village of Steventon they’re delighted to offer the first ever production of this play in the UK.  The play centres on the character of Anne Elliot. The story highlights the power of persuasion in observing the social pressures of the time\, and contrasts Anne’s quiet strength and resilience with her father’s vanity and sisters’ social climbing.\n\nAnne was only nineteen when she met and fell in love with Frederick Wentworth. They were briefly engaged… until Anne broke it off\, on the advice of her godmother Lady Russell. Eight years later\, however\, tides have turned: Captain Wentworth returns to England\, rich and successful from the war with Napoleon\, while Anne finds herself exiled from her family home in Bath. Though their paths cross at society and family gatherings\, Anne has faded to an ‘old maid’ looking on as Wentworth’s relationship with the Musgrove sisters becomes ever closer. Whom will he choose\, will Anne overcome her regrets\, and can Wentworth set aside his resentment? \n\nDates:  Thursday 23 April 2026 – Saturday 25 April  7.45-10.15 and also Saturday 2.30-5.15\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Booking closes two hours before curtain-up. You will normally be able to get tickets ‘on the door’ if you arrive half an hour before the show starts.\n\nTickets here:

SUMMARY:Kew Society Talk: Reflecting on the Restoration of Furnished Rooms at Kew Palace
DESCRIPTION:Twenty years ago\, in April 2006\, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 80th birthday in the newly restored Dining Parlour at Kew Palace. Empty of its original contents\, it was one of several rooms refurnished to replicate the period when occupied by George III\, Queen Charlotte and some of their daughters between 1801 and 1812.  This talk will cover the archival research undertaken\, which led to the sourcing of appropriate fabrics\, designs and contemporary items required for this smallest and least ostentatious of royal palaces. \nAnnabel Westman MBE\, FSA is a textile historian\, lecturer and consultant who has worked on a wide variety of significant restoration projects for heritage bodies and museums in the UK and abroad.  Pertinent to this talk on Kew Palace\, she worked as the adviser on textiles with Historic Royal Palaces.  Her many publications include Fringe\, Frog and Tassel: The Art of the Trimmings-Maker in Interior Decoration (NT & PWP\, 2019). \nThe talk starts at 7:30pm and the doors will open at 7:00pm. The cost for members will be £5 and for non-members it will be £10. Tickets are available through Eventbrite  (fees apply) or on the door.

SUMMARY:Free CPR and Defibrillator Training
DESCRIPTION:The London Heart Starters campaign is bringing more life-saving defibrillators to the city\, in the areas where they are needed most. Join Rotary Club of Kew Gardens and London Ambulance Service on 9 April to learn how to save a life. \nDespite the progress they have made\, research by the Rotary Club of Kew Gardens found that 19 (of 35) defibrillators in Kew are not registered with The Circuit register for emergency services. It’s also been established that the vast majority of defibrillators are not available 24/7\, as they are located within premises with limited opening hours. \nIn a huge boon for the local area\, Kew Community Trust has recently installed a new\, publicly and 24/7 available\, defibrillator on the wall of St Luke’s Church. \nDefibrillators are safe and simple to use and the more we install in public places\, the more lives will be saved. \nSlots on 9 April are now nearly sold out. Walk-ins are still welcome! However\, we are also currently looking to agree a new date – keep an eye out. \nJoin us on 9 April for your chance to learn how to save a life.  \nThe London Ambulance Service will teach you how to do CPR and use a defibrillator to help someone. \nTraining will be provided in short\, 15-minute bursts\, where you will have the opportunity to learn\, practice\, and ask questions. \nWalk-ins are welcomed on the day\, book here to secure a specific time! \nAny questions? Please e-mail info@kewrotary.org.uk \n\n\n\nLOCATION\nKew Community Trust\, St Luke’s Church\, TW9 2AJ
