SUMMARY:Revolution 250 America’s Independence Story 1763-1783
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of a document that changed the world: The US Declaration of Independence. The National Archives are marking this momentous period in British American history with a powerful exhibition that charts the emergence of the United States of America through original documents\, letters\, maps\, treaties and acts of parliament from the time.\nVisitors will be taken on a journey spanning twenty years that shaped history. A rare\, original ‘Dunlap broadside’ of the Declaration of Independence printed in Philadelphia on the night of 4 July 1776 will be on display\, along with the Olive Branch Petition to King George III\, signed by many of the men who  would become the ‘Founding Fathers’ of the United States\, in a last-ditch attempt to avoid war a year earlier. \nAlongside the familiar story of Britain and the rebels\, visitors will discover more about those often overlooked in the traditional narrative – Indigenous peoples\, Black Loyalists\, and enslaved persons\, uncovering the human consequences of the decisions made on both sides of the Atlantic during this time of shifting powers and allegiances. \nRevolution 250: America’s Independence Story 1763–1783 will not only document the key political events and military manoeuvres on the road to American independence but also explore the impact of the conflict on those who lived through it.\nFor this exhibition the National Archives team consulted with members of the Onondaga and Mohawk\nnations\, and the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre in Nova Scotia. \nThis exhibition contains material relating to colonial violence\, slavery\, and warfare. Some records include ideas\, language and imagery that may be offensive or distressing.

SUMMARY:Kew the Transition Talk at the Tap
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to this informal\, drop-in meeting where we get to know each other\, chat about what we’ve done and what we can do next – and generally just enjoy a relaxed\, social evening. \nKew The Transition is a grassroots community group that is working to bring beautiful resilience to Kew and the Borough of Richmond\, based on Transition principles. \nIn a nutshell\, Transition is a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world. There are now groups in nearly 50 countries\, in thousands of communities. With the aim of creating a low-carbon\, socially just future we are crowdsourcing local solutions to big global problems\, such as climate change\, food insecurity\, and the need to end our use of fossil fuels. \nTransition groups do things like: \n\ncreate community gardens and markets to re-localise the food chain\nestablish shared libraries of things so that people can share seldom-used or expensive tools or equipment\noffer opportunities to learn how to repair and reuse our things so that we reduce waste\, and consumption\npromote planting that supports biodiversity\, and build vibrant community spaces for sharing our ideas\nbring their communities together to form a shared vision of what a greener\, greater\, more planet-friendly world could look like.
