Westerly Ware’s Pétanque Piste is open for play

The Westerly Ware Association is happy to announce that the Westerly Ware Pétanque Piste is now open.

Funded by Warner Brothers and Richmond Civic Pride Fund, the piste was completed a couple of weeks ago.  It is free to use, with no booking required – just turn up and have a go.

Pétanque can be played socially or competitively and is a sport which people of all ages, genders and abilities can play together.  The object of the game is simple: individually, or in two teams of two or three, you have to get your three steel boules as close as possible to the small wooden jack. But in the process – and here’s the fun bit – you are permitted, even encouraged, to interfere with the boules of your opponent(s). The basic rules are easy to learn, but people spend years perfecting the art of the game.
